A bursa is a fluid-filled structure that is present between the skin and tendon or tendon and bone. The main function of a bursa is to reduce friction between adjacent moving structures. Bursae around the knee can be classified as those around the patella and those that occur elsewhere. In this pictorial essay we describe the most commonly encountered lesions and their MRI appearance.
Thoracic endometriosis is a rare form of extrapelvic endometriosis. These patients typically present with catamenial pneumothorax or hemoptysis. Adequate clinical history coupled with HRCT helps in early diagnosis and appropriate management of thoracic endometriosis.
The external auditory canal is an S- shaped osseo-cartilaginous structure that extends from the auricle to the tympanic membrane. Congenital, inflammatory, neoplastic, and traumatic lesions can affect the EAC. High-resolution CT is well suited for the evaluation of the temporal bone, which has a complex anatomy with multiple small structures. In this study, we describe the various lesions affecting the EAC.
Post-cholecystectomy syndrome is a group of disorders resulting from complications of laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Here we report a case of a 59-year-old female patient with history of cholecystectomy who presented with right hypochondrium pain and bloating. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatogram revealed a tubular cystic lesion with calculus in situ in the gallbladder fossa in keeping with cystic duct remnant.
Rupture of an aneurysm is a rare complication although it is considered a common cause of death. Some of these patients present with the classic triad of symptoms such as abdominal pain, pulsatile abdominal mass and shock. Most symptoms are misleading and will only present as vague abdominal pain. Here we describe one such patient with an unusual presentation of a misleading abdominal mass which was eventually diagnosed as a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm after an emergency MRI.
