Cucumber is a one of healthy fruit which have many health benefits of cucurbitaceae family. It maintains blood pressure, regulates hydration, controls sugar, and soothes the skin, helpful in digestion. It also helps to weight loss by reducing fat. Cucumber also contains fibre, potassium, manganese, magnesium and vitamin K, C, A. Cucumber can also have hydrated and antimicrobial properties, and detoxify the body and, prevent cancer and other many bone disease. Economically cucumbers are very important, as cucumbers contain high nutritional, medicinal as well as health beneficial values. Palynological studies on ten species of angiosperms family namely Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. officinale, S. asper, C. japonica, C. officinalis and T. officinale and smooth in L. candidum.The general appearance of the pollen grain is circular in P. axillaries but longer than wide in L.candidum. The circular, echinate, large and triporate pollens seem to be primitive ones and spharoidal, hexaporate features have been regarded as comparatively advanced ones. Polyporate pollens are considered to be secondarily derived. The nature of the pollen grain in these species could be evolutionary significance. The similarities in structure of the pollen grain showed the inter-species relationships among the species and that's why put in same family while the differences in structures showed reasons for them to exist as distinct species. Only one species namely L.candidum from monocot family (Liliaceae) included in this study.
Morphological structures of pollen-grains of fifteen species of angiosperms collected from Central Nepal were cytologically carried out. Pollen structure of fifteen species viz. Antirrhium majus from family Plantaginaceae, Brunfelsia pauciflora and Petunia hybrida from Solanaceae, Centurea cyanus and Chrysanthemum morifolium from Asteraceae, Malvaviscous arboreus from Malvaceae, Lantana camera from Verbenaceae, Chlorophytum comosum from Asperagaceae, Oxalis europia from Oxilidaceae, Jasminum officinale from Oleaceae, Geranium roseous from Geranaceae, Mirabilis jalapa from Nyctaginaceae, Phlox paniculata from Polymoniaceae and Tradescantia brivifolia from commelinaceae studied in this investigation. Most of the structure of pollen found to be spheroidal, some irregular, oval, elongated and circular. The present study gives an account of variations of pollen grain structure within the angiosperms family. Triporate to polyprate aperture and echinate to smooth walled exine were observed in present study. Lycopersicon esculentum is a flowering plant of the family Solanaceae. The common name for this plant is tomato. Tomatoes are a good source of lycopene which is a main pigment found in it and responsible for red colour. The lycopene provides antioxidant properties and helps to prevent cell damage. Tomatoes also prevent the adverse effects of lead in the blood constituents. Tomatoes are used in different ways such as raw or cooked, in many dishes, sauces, salads, pickles, puree, paste, juice, sun- dried and drink. Tomato fruits content ninety four percent water, citric acid, malic acid, soluble sugars, vitamin, vitamin B1, B2, vitamin A, and many mineral salts etc. High levels of lycopene which contain in tomatoes are used in facial cleanser. Flavonoids like flavonols which is present in tomatoes are rich in antioxidant activity and can help our body ward off every day toxins. Pollen morphology of twelve species of angiosperms from Central Nepal was cytologically carried out in present investigation. In this investigation pollen morphology of Bignonia venusta Ker Gawl. and Jacranda mimisifolia D.Don from the family Bignoniaceae; Brassica compestris L. from Brassicaceae; Cuphea hyssopifolia Kunth. from Lythraceae; Coriandrum sativum L. from Apiaceae; Crepis japonica L. and Dichrocephala integrifolia (L f.) kunzte. from Asteraceae; Delphinium ajacis L. from Ranunculaceae; Dianthus barbetus L. from Caryophyllaceae; Euphorbia Milii Des Moul. and Euphorbia pulcherima L. from Euphorbiaceae and Magnolia fuscata from Magnoliaceae were studied. Shape of the pollen grains found to be mostly spheroidal, few circular, one elliptical, one triangular and one elongated in this study. Sculpture of exine wall found to be smooth, echidnae, tected, reticulated and perforated type. Aperture of the pollen grains found to be triporate to pentaporate. The large, medium and small sized pollen grains were observed in present research. The high diversty of sculpture type in pollen grains of angiosperms has been associated to diversity in pollination systems. Smooth pollen grains are linked with wind or water pollination while sculptured pollen grains associated with biotic pollination. The morphology of pollen grain is one of the significant tools in solving some taxonomic problems such as identification, tracing phylogenetic relationship on the family, generic or specific level and in plant systematic and evolution.
