Density enhancement is a possible cause of the enhanced
radiative recombination observed in electron coolers and
electron targets. We present a screening model for the numerical
evaluation of the density enhancement in the vicinity of an ion
at rest in a magnetized electron plasma. Our model extends the
conventional Debye screening in two ways: (a) we account for the
magnetic field by using pseudo-particles with finite spatial
extent instead of point-like electrons; and (b) the resulting set
of equations is solved numerically without linearization. Our
model shows good qualitative agreement with experimental
results.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
