The present study was carried out to determine the prevalence of Theileria annulata in large ruminants from two districts, Peshawar and Kohat, in Khyber Pukhtoon Khwa (Pakistan). Blood samples were collected from 95 cattle. Data on the characteristics of animals and herds were collected through questionnaires. No significant risk factors were found associated with the spread of tropical theileriosis in the study area. Two different parasite detection techniques, PCR amplification and screening of Giemsa stained slides, were compared and it was found that PCR amplification is a more sensitive tool (33.7% parasite detection), as compared to smear scanning (5.2% parasite detection) for the detection of Theileria annulata. 32 out of 95 animals, from both districts, produced the 721-bp fragment specific for Theileria annulata.
Sixty six Oreochromis nilotica female (wild) of different body sizes ranging 9.1 -17.9 cm total length and 14.27 -118.43 g body weight for the analysis of body composition parameters in relation to body size and condition factor. It was observed that inverse correlation exist between % water and % fat (wet weight) and % protein (wet weight). Body weight has no influence on % fat and % protein (wet weight). Total length has inverse correlation between % ash (wet weight) and but has positive correlation with % water. Condition factor has positive correlation between % fat (wet weight) and % protein (wet weight).
This study describes the length-weight relationships (LWRs) for Oreochromis niloticus and Notopterus notopterus, collected in 2006 and 2009 respectively from the Indus River, southern Punjab, Pakistan, with W = 0.0393 L 2.72 for O. niloticus and W = 0.0121 L 2.87 for N. notopterus. Negative allometric growth is indicated for both species.
The present study was designed to demonstrate the potential effect of CGP 35348 (GABAB receptor antagonist) on the learning, memory formation, and neuromuscular coordination in albino mouse. Mice were intrapertoneally injected with 1 mg CGP 35348/mL of distilled water/Kg body weight, while the control animals were injected with equal volume of saline solution. A battery of neurological tests was applied following the intrapertoneal injections. Results of rota rod indicated that CGP 35348 had no effect on neuromuscular coordination in both male (P = 0.528) and female (P = 0.125) albino mice. CGP 35348 treated females demonstrated poor exploratory behavior during open filed for several parameters (time mobile (P = 0.04), time immobile (P = 0.04), rotations (P = 0.04), and anticlockwise rotations (P = 0.038)). The results for Morris water maze (MWM) retention phase indicated that CGP 35348 treated male mice took shorter latency to reach the hidden platform (P = 0.04) than control indicating improved memory. This observation was complemented by the swim strategies used by mice during training days in MWM as CGP 35348 treated males used more direct and focal approach to reach the platform as the training proceeded.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
