The formation of a stable trinltratouranyl aaion^ 1102(1103)3'', in acetone and aiethyl isobutyl ketone, .'solutions has been demonstrated spectrophotometrically as iToll as by studies of solubilityj, electrolytic transference, and partition between solvents0 Ibis complex is responsible for the enhancement of tiranyl nitrate extraction into fflettjgrl isobutyl ketone by hydrasine, hi^ molecular weight amines, and quaternary aianonium salts. !the stability of the anionic complex has been found to d^end on the n^tiare of the associated cation and to decrease idth increasing wateivKJontent of the solvent* The existence of a stable anionic thorium nitrate ctanplex has been inferred from the effect of thorium nitrate on the spectra of uranyl nitrate solutions, and from the increased extraction of thorium nitrate » into methyl isobutyl ketone in the presence of solvent-soluble nitrate salts.
