Phys. Rev. Letters~17 847 (1966). The 02 and Ne used in this work was Matheson assayed reagent grade as supplied in 1.1liter Pyrex flasks. The analyses supplied by the manufacturer showed: for 02, no detectable impurities greater than 2 ppm by volume for one sample and 15 ppm for a second sample; for Ne, no detectable impurities greater than 12 ppm for all samples. An efficient process for converting the energy stored in electronically excited NF(a'A) into blue-green BiF (A-X) band emissions has been discovered. Bismuth atoms are converted to BiF and then repeatedly pumped to the (AO') state in two steps via collisions with NF(a'A). A model has been formulated that predicts BiF emission intensities that are in excellent agreement with the observed values. Some of the rate coefficients required for this model are estimated by means of charge-transfer theories. The cyclic nature of this system, along with its other basic properties, suggests that it has a strong potential to be an efficient blue-green laser system.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
