This study examined the effect of the "TrEAT Yourself Well" campaign on diners'menu choices using data from four restaurant chains in California. Within each chain, two locations in the greater San Diego area were selected as experimental sites and either one or two locations outside the greater San Diego area were selected as control sites. Various promotional activities, including in-restaurant promotions, community events, and paid media advertising, were conducted in the experimental region to promote healthy menu entrées. The results show that the campaign was successful in reaching diners and had positive effects on their beliefs and attitudes toward healthy dining. The campaign directly increased the probability of a consumer purchasing a healthy menu item by 3.7% (p = .05). By improving consumer attitudes toward healthy menu items, the campaign indirectly increased purchases of these items by 4.4%.
Purpose -The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of online banking intensity on the financial performance of community banks. Design/methodology/approach -This study estimates online banking intensity and bank performance indices using a combination of primary and secondary data. Online banking intensity is specified as a latent construct and estimated using web feature data collected from bank websites. An empirical profit function of a nonstandard Fourier flexible form is estimated using bank's financial data to derive a theoretically consistent performance measure. The actual impact of online banking on performance is measured by regressing the profit efficiency index against a number of correlates including online banking intensity measure. Findings -Study results indicate that the increasing use of internet as an additional channel of marketing banking services has significantly improved the financial performance of community banks. Practical implications -These results show that online banking improves the financial performance and should encourage community banks to adopt new information technologies and offer targeted online services. Originality/value -This paper is the first of its kind that applies a structural equation modeling framework to develop a comprehensive online banking intensity measure, which accounts for a wide array of products and services offered online by a bank, and utilizes the estimated index in measuring the impact of internet banking intensity on bank performance.
The problem of introducing a Cartesian position operator canonically conjugate to the momentum operator into relativistic one-particle theories is investigated independent of any particular relativistic wave equation. The known result that such a description is possible for particles with nonvanishing mass is rederived. The general problem of introduction of canonical variables into relativistic theories is formulated and solved. The configurational indices so obtained correspond to directed plane wavefronts rather than point particles.
This letter reports microwave-assisted magnetization reversal (MAMR) in a 700-Gbit/in2 perpendicular media sample. The microwave fields were applied by placing a coplanar waveguide on the media sample and feeding it with narrow microwave pulses. The switching states of the media grains were measured by magnetic force microscopy. For microwaves with a frequency close to the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) frequency of the media, MAMR was observed for microwave power higher than a certain threshold. For microwaves with certain high power, MAMR was observed for a broad microwave frequency range which covers the FMR frequency and is centered below the FMR frequency.
