Blackbody cavity radiation is considered from the point of view of an observer in arbitrary uniform motion with respect to the cm. of the radiation. It is found that the only effect of the motion is to introduce an angle-dependent effective temperature, which replaces the rest-frame temperature of the cavity. The results are applied to the question of the earth's motion through the 3°K cosmic radiation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
