A feature of dynamical pinches is their tendency to generate nonthermal (fast) particles. The development of ion runaway and manifestations of a recently proposed ion gyro-reflection-acceleration in computer simulations and Schlierenpictures taken at plasma focus experiments are studied. Consequences concerning pinch equilibrium and stability are outlined.
Part of the dye laser tune-up and preliminary Schlieren investigation was performed by M. Milanese and J. Pouzo (scholar of Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
