Experimental studies have been carried out on the effect of random jitter in the carrier frequency, on the demodulated output SNR of an FSK signal. The jitter is simulated by adding low-paas filtered random noise to the binary modulating signal. A large number of curves have been drawn giving the output SNR aa a function of r.m.8. frequency jitter in the carrier. This is done a t a few typical values of the modulation index and of the bandwidth of the IF filter. Study is also made o f the effect of the low-pass bandwidth of the input noise, producing the jitter, on the output SNR. Based on these experimental results, typical values have been derived for the modulation index and the bandwidth of the IF filter a t which the system has maximum tolerance to the jitter in the carrier frequency.
Glossary of principal symbolsPeriod during which the binary signal takes the values + 1 or -1.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
