1, thiophen-l-one (24).-A mixture of 0.100 g (1.00 mmol) of l,3-dihydronaphtho[2,3-c]furan-l-thione (27) and 1.8 ml of pyridine was heated under nitrogen in a sealed tube at 190°for 8 hr. The reaction mixture was diluted with chloroform, washed with dilute aqueous hydrochloric acid, dried over magnesium sulfate, and evaporated to dryness in vacuo. Recrystallization of the residue from benzene gave 0.072 g (72%) of the product, mp 174-175°, obtained in two crops.
