An analysis has been made of 64600 events of the type K p + K p-0 and 22 800 events of the type K p + K n in the Berkeley 25-inch hydrogen bubble chamber. Differential cross sections have been measured in intervals of 10 MeV/c over the momentum range 220 to 470 MeV/c. Legendre polynomial fits to the distributions have been made, and the coefficients show structure from the resonant D-wave A(1520) and background Sand P-waves. No new structure is observed. The total K-p cross section determined from measurements of all final states seen in this exposure is also presented. 'I
An analysis has been made of 57 600 events of the type K -p -+A + missing neutrals obtained in the Berkeley 25-in. hydrogen bubble chamber. The data were divided into intervals of 10 MeVir in incident momentum and fits were made to the distribution In missing neutral mass, the production cosine, and the polarization of the A. These fits yielded Legendre coefficients describing the cross sections and polarizations for K -p+Io.rro and K -p +~a o in the momentum range 240 to 450MeV/c. The cross sections and polarization in the T0rro final state show marked structure coming from the production and decay of A(1520). The cross sections and polarizations for the hmO final state vary slowly. No new structure is observed.
Fusion is potentially a safe clean source not limited by political boundaries. Magnetic and inertial fusion share this promise, but there are differences between them. An inertial fusion power plant is based on different physics and technology from a magnetic fusion power plant and therefore presents somewhat different benefits and challenges. The facilities required to demonstrate inertial fusion power are potentially much smaller. In this article we describe concepts for such a power plant, its beneficial features and a low-cost reactor test facility for developing practical fusion power.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
