IEEE's Nuclear Power Engineering Committee (NPEC) has undertaken a number of initiatives to improve nuclear oriented standards for plant operation and maintenance and to transition away from the current primary focus on original design. One of NPEC's improvement goals has been to increase the effectiveness and usefulness of its standards for extending the operating life and license of existing nuclear power plants. Working Group 3.4 (Aging Assessment) was assigned to this goal and recently completed its role in this effort. This paper will summarize the approach taken to identify appropriate standards for enhancement and the resulting recommendations determined to better support license renewal and plant operations through aging assessments and management of plant electrical equipment.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
