The temperature dependence (2 -300 K) and hydrostatic pressure dependence (0-7 kbar) of the q-0 transverse-optic mode frequency m, and its associated damping 2I (0, t, co,) are reported for the alkali, silver, and thallium halides. These results are analyzed to yield the temperature dependence of the thermal strain 6 (0, t) and far-infrared anharmonic self-energies hr(O, t, co, ) associated vrith the mode at co, . In addition, calculations of 5 (0, t), 5r"(O, t, A) at 0 = 0 and 0 = co"and f'(0, t, m, ) are presented for the alkali halides crystallizing in the NaCI structure using current many-body thermodynamic Green's-function anharmonic theories, and these are compared with the experimental results.14 3598
