It was recently suggested that a binary payload and a binary label may be optically multiplexed into a single quaternary packet. In this paper we use computer simulations to investigate the bit error rate performance of this packet when it is propagated through different types of fiber. Results suggest that the maximum propagation distance for a packet composed by a 10Gb/s payload and a 2.5 Gb/s label is around 300 km for a NZD fiber. We also analyze the case in which there is a time misalignment between the label and payload.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
