Applications of flame retardant treatments for cotton fabrics using foamed phos phonium salt precondensates are discussed. Examples of applications to cotton twill, jersey knit, flannel, interlock knits, and chambray are used to compare the pad/dry and foam techniques. Using criteria developed specifically for tubular jersey knits, a process for handling double layer fabrics for flame retardant treatments is revealed. While the data do not indicate significant improvements in finish utilization by the foam process, the predrying step can be eliminated and the study provides an alter native to padding and drying for maintaining the critical moisture and finish level on fabric by metering on the foamed finish.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
