A liver biopsy was taken and the abdomen closed. Histological examination showed bile thrombi in the bile canaliculi but no dilatation of the bile ducts, gross perilobular fatty degeneration of the liver cells and slight periportal round cell infiltration but no necrosis of liver cells, no xegeneration, no fibrosis, and no reticulin formation.
