Many recent studies have documented links between circuit-, network-, and brain-level mechanisms supporting the initiation of working memory-guided behaviors. However, few have examined how sensorimotor representations stored in working memory are used to plan future behaviors. We leverage the high temporal resolution of human EEG recordings to show that when planning future memory-guided behaviors the brain switches from an initial joint visuomotor code to a subsequent motor-only code.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
