Abstract:The internal sulfate attack by pyrite presence in cement compositions is a result of the mineral oxidation and liberation of ion sulfate in cement paste that, in late stages, promotes concrete cracking and loss of its properties. In this paper, it was evaluated configurations of accelerated mortar bar tests in which there were different percentages of pyrite under conditions of partial and total immersion in water. On partial immersion bars, it was verified a period of retraction. The largest expansions were verified on total immersion bars.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
