A right atrial myxoma arising from the crista terminalis was detected during follow-up echocardiography in a 74-year-old man who had undergone coronary artery bypass grafting one year earlier. The myxoma was excised en bloc with a wide cuff of normal atrial wall and the right atrium was reconstructed with autologous pericardium.
Pheochromocytoma, an uncommon intra-abdominal tumor of the sympathetic nervous system, is associated with episodic hypertension. Cardiac complications infrequently occur as the principal presenting symptoms and may account for the morbidity and mortality. The role of catecholamines, mainly noradrenaline, in ventricular hypertrophy and cardiac dysfunction is well documented. This report documents two autopsy cases, one of adrenal pheochromocytoma and the other of extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma, with manifestations primarily of cardiac etiology. The changes described indicate catecholamine cardiomyopathy.
Extramedullary myeloid sarcoma (EMMS) involving the biliary tract is extremely rare. We describe, a case of a 40-year-old gentleman who presented with obstructive jaundice and features of malignant biliary stricture on ERCP and MRCP. Histopathology revealed myeloblasts, while peripheral blood and bone marrow did not reveal any evidence of leukemia.
