A 60-year-old female presented with gradual, painless, progressive diminution of vision, and progressive proptosis of left eye since 7 years. Ophthalmological examination revealed mild proptosis and total optic atrophy in the left eye. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) brain with orbit showed bilateral optic nerve sheath meningioma (ONSM) involving the intracranial, intracanalicular, intraorbital part of the optic nerve extending up to optic chiasma and left cavernous sinus.
This case report describes a patient with a known left ventricular mass which was documented by transthoracic echocardiography and which had not changed in size after anticoagulation. The mass was characterized as fatty tumor or hemorrhagic by cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging study, and surgical removal of the mass was performed. Transesophageal echocardiogram was performed intraoperatively. The tumor appeared homogenous with no echolucencies or echodensities and a n overall bright echotexture. I n vitro ultrasound studies done using similar instrument gain settings showed the lipoma specimen to have a much brighter appearance than a myxoma. This finding may be helpful in differentiating a lipoma from other left ventricular masses such as myxoma or thrombus. (ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY, Volume 12, May 1995) cardiac tumor, left ventricle, lipoma, transesophageal echocardiography
Purpose:The purpose of this study was to correlate the postoperative best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) with spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) findings in fovea involving rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) surgery.Materials and Methods:Thirty eyes with preoperative fovea-involving RRD, who underwent scleral buckling (SB) (6 eyes) and pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) (19 eyes) and combined SB and PPV (5 eyes) were recruited. Patients underwent clinical examination and SD-OCT scan of fovea preoperatively and at 30 days and 90 days postoperatively. The correlations between SD-OCT findings and BCVA were analyzed. Results:Inner segment/outer segment (IS/OS) junction integrity was the indicator of better BCVA at 30 days and 90 days (P = 0.0002 and P = 0.0003, respectively) whereas outer retinal corrugation (ORC) was related to worse BCVA at 30 days and 90 days (P = 0.001). External limiting membrane did not have a co-relation with visual outcome, but cystoid macular edema showed co-relation at 90 days (P = 0.047). All eyes of SB and 3 eyes of PPV had a minimal subfoveal fluid at 30 days follow-up that had no effect on visual acuity. All retinas were attached at final follow-up.Conclusion:IS/OS junction integrity and ORC may be important predictors of postoperative visual outcome after anatomically successful RRD surgery.
Cytotoxic effect(s) of N6-cycloalkylated adenine and adenosine derivatives, upon the viability of mouse hepatoma cells, were studied in vitro. N6-Cyclopropyl- and N6-cyclobutyladenine and adenosine derivatives (33 µg/ml; 24–48 h) exerted significant cytotoxic effects upon the cells. N6-Cyclopentyl- and N6-cyclohexyladenines exerted similar effects under different experimental conditions (133–166 µg/ml; 48–72 h), while no significant cytotoxic effect(s) were observed with the corresponding adenosine derivatives under these conditions. Observed physical changes in the treated cells included cell elongation, short stubby filaments, wide intracellular spaces and ruptured cell membranes. N6-Cycloal-kylated nucleosides were usually more cytotoxic than the cycloalkylated bases.
