Component-based software development (CBSD) has become one of the preferred streams for developing large and complex systems by integrating prefabricated software components that not only facilitates the process of software development but is also changing the ways for software professionals to develop software applications. Till today, numerous attempts have been made by several organizations, software development teams, developers as well as researchers to improve component-oriented software systems (COSS) through improved measurement tools and techniques i.e. through an effective metrics. Our paper is a simple attempt to work for the demand of an appropriate and relevant integration metrics for the measurement of complexity of a software component that could be used as one of the approaches for further guidance in component complexity measurement and problem reduction. We represented a component metrics as an instantiation of the integration complexity measurement which can then be evaluated using appropriate metric tools. The work presented in this paper introduces a perception of component-oriented software systems complexity and also defines some new complexity metrics.
The Component Based Software Development (CBSD) approach is becoming the trend for software development and is based on developing the software from existing components instead of developing software from the scratch level. Measuring the software complexity is an important aspect during software development as it is an important determinant of software development effort, testing effort, cost, maintainability etc. Interactions/interfaces among components play an important role in contributing complexity to a component based software. In this paper a comparison between different complexity metrics developed by different authors is performed. These metrics are performed by taking different factors to calculate the complexity of the components based software, these factors are instance variables, instance methods, control flow and interface methods etc.. The comparison is performed by taking some quality factors into consideration like maintainability, Integrity, complexity, testability, customizability etc.
Component based software engineering (CBSE) is based on the concept of reusability. CBSE is upcoming paradigm where emphasis is laid on reuse of existing component and rebuilds a new component. Software metrics are used to check the complexity of software. Many software metrics have been proposed for CBS to measure various attributes like complexity, cohesion, coupling etc. Many different cohesion and coupling metrics have been developed. For quality software the cohesion should be high and coupling should be low. The aim of this paper is to develop adequate coupling, cohesion and interface metrics. Graph notation and concept of weights have been used to illustrate proposed metrics and evaluate the results accordingly.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
