Being one of the important subjects during the undergraduate studies of Ayurveda (BAMS), it holds a substantial position in the entire syllabus. The present study was designed to appraise the attitude and knowledge of Ayurveda graduates on the practical application of the subject in day to day professional life. The sharable link was made available online from 12 th November 2018 to 31st Jan 2020 for recording the responses of the volunteers. Analysis of the responses was conducted thereafter. Results A total of 2128 participants expressed their opinion through this online survey which evaluated the views of scholars of Ayurveda regarding Agadatantra and contemporary allied subjects. Most of the respondents 65.27% were male and 30.83% holding BAMS as their highest qualification, 34.02% were postgraduate (MD) in Agadatantra ; 55.03% (n = 1171) were academicians and 63.06% participants had an opinion that current UG& PG teaching is not sufficient to know about medico-legal responsibilities. Conclusion The survey shows that there are few downsides in the existing teaching methodologies of Agadatantra . The existing syllabus should be revised entirely considering it as one of the clinical subjects. Concrete practical based teaching with ample clinical exposure is the need of the hour in the subject of Agadatantra to enhance its practical applicability.
Aristolochia indica is a plant belonging to the family Aristolochiaceae. The medicinal value of A. indica has been known in different system of traditional medicine including Ayurveda. A number of Aristolochia species has been used in herbal medicines throughout the world for the cure of several ailments including metabolic diseases to venomous bites of snake and insects. The current work was executed with an objective to explore the in vitro antimicrobial, anti-fungal and anti-oxidant activity of A. indica. The relevant literature was also pursued for the justification and comparing the resemblances in the results. Aqueous and ethanolic extracts of roots of Aristolochia indica Linn. were tested for their inhibitory effect against 6 bacterial strains [Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Klebsiella pneumoniae & Shigella flexneri] and 3 fungi strains [Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus fumigatus, Candida albicans]. Agar-well method was used for the assessment of in-vitro antibacterial and antifungal activity of A. indica against selected standard bacterial strains. The minimum inhibitory concentration for each extract of various micro-organisms was also measured. Ethanolic extract of A. indica shows Minimum concentration (MIC) value of 50-100 μg/ml against selected bacterial strains which is better when compared to the aqueous extracts. Ethanolic extracts also showed moderate effects against the selected fungal strains, whereas the aqueous extracts failed to exhibit any effect even at higher concentrations.
Ayurved, the science of life deals with every aspect of life and Vajikarana is one of its eight branches being practiced since time immemorial. Ayurveda has two aims i.e. protection and promotion of health and secondly cure from diseases. Vajikarana may be employed for fulfilling both of them i.e. promotion of sexual health and curing the sexual diseases. Sexuality and reproduction are so vital in Ayurveda that an entire discipline, known as Vajikarana, is dedicated to enhancing fertility and rejuvenating sexual and reproductive energy. Vajikarana deals with the preservation and amplification of sexual potency of a healthy man and conception of healthy progeny as well as management of defective semen, disturbed sexual potency and spermatogenesis along with treatment of seminal related disorders in man. Vajikarana promotes the sexual capacity and performance as well as improves the physical, psychological and social health of an individual. Factually the Vajikarana is not exactly aphrodisiac but the current connotational meaning is same. Vajikarana therapy may minimize occurrence of congenital disorders besides it may also boost the genetic constitution of baby. Sexual intercourse commonly plays a strong role in human bonding, usually being used solely for pleasure and often leading to stronger emotional bonds.
