Indian Telecom Sector is one of the fastest growing domains compared to other sectors of development, which has received extensive investments, both by government as well as private players in the recent years. The prime purpose of this study was to compare the performance of Public and Private Telecommunication sector with reference to wireless services in Assam Telecom Circle. The paper tried to explore and understand the major similarities and differences existing between the public and private cellular service providers in terms of market penetration effectiveness, their subscribers' base, revenue earned by them etc. in the above mentioned Circle. National and State level data of Telecom Sector was collected on a periodic basis over time. A critical evaluation had been done with the help of Applied Analytical Research, by using facts and information already available. The result showed that there were few common factors applicable to both Public and Private Telecom Sector; however significant differences in performance are there in these sectors in Assam Circle. The key findings from this study describe that visibly the Private Sector had better performance than Public Sector in terms of few parameters considered in this study, which might indicate a possible development direction for the effectiveness of Public Sector in this Circle.
The core intent of the paper is to study the different environmental sustainability factors in relation to the development of tourism in Swaraj Dweep of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The study is limited and based on the different perceptions of tourists concerning different environmental sustainability factors effecting tourism development on the island. Consequently, from various literatures, a listing of different environmental sustainability factors of tourism development has been carried out. A convenient sample survey has been conducted among 400 tourists who have visited the islands to find out their perceptions on the environmental factors. The average perception of tourists shows that “Protection of Natural Vegetation and Marine life” is the most important environmental sustainability factor for tourism development in the islands. The paired sample “t-test analysis” that has been applied by the researcher to find out the degree of influence amongst the different listed environmental sustainability factors in the course of the development of tourism on the islands. The outcome of this paper will help policymakers to devise and execute policies related to sustainable tourism development on the basis of tourists’ viewpoint in Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island) - one of the promising tourist destinations of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Tourism has both positive and negative impact on the host community. This paper tries to find out the perceptions of the host community towards tourism development and its impacts in Shaheed Dweep of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A simple random household survey was conducted among 353 respondents of Shaheed Dweep to know about perceptions on two factors of impact: (i) Costs of Tourism Development and (ii) Benefits from tourism Development. An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was applied for it. The findings reveal that tourism development has created lots of employment opportunities as one of the positive impacts but on the other side as a negative impact, it found that due to the seasonal nature it is creating more part-time job than full-time among the host community.
