Syntheses and single crystal X-ray structural characterizations are reported for bis adducts (6) and (7) formed between Danishefsky's diene (8) with (respectively) the dienophiles 2,6- and 2,5-dichlorobenzoquinone. Formation of each adduct involves diastereocontrolled creation of six stereogenic centres.
The following case report of bilateral pseudomucinous cystadenoma of the ovary is presented because of their unusually large size in the present day of modern surgery. The famous classical ovarian tumors of great size that were frequently described in the past were of this type. They grow very slowly and rarely develop carcinomatous degeneration. From an operative standpoint the pseudomucinous tumors are particularly favorable because the cysts usually lie free in the abdomen with an easily accessible pedicle, and adhesions to the intestine are not present unless the tumors are complicated by some inflammatory process. Preoperative and postoperative photographs are presented for comparison (Figs. 1, 2).
Cases of acute suppurative pericarditis clinically diagnosed and successfully treated are rare even yet. Adolescents and adults who recover from staphylococcus septicemia are relatively few. When the pericarditis is an expression of a generalized septic process, the field for successful operative intervention seems to be small, yet limited as it is, it affords the sole chance of averting a fatal issue. We believe that the recovery of a young male adult with acute suppurative pericarditis and staphylococcemia in which the etiologic organism was staphylococcus pyogenes aureus, merits presentation.
Subdural hematoma may be defined as the accumulation of extravasated blood in the space between the arachnoid and dura. In the great majority of instances, particularly those which present diagnostic difficulties, the bleeding is slow and cumulative. In a large proportion of cases the precipitating factor is trauma to the skull and frequently the injury is so slight as to be completely disregarded at the time of its occurrence. The condition may be diagnosed early and timely surgical intervention almost invariably results in a cure. Jelsma lists as most important and constant, the latent period, lucid period, headaches, mental changes, drowsiness, motor disturbances, changes in reflexes, disturbances of the cranial nerves, remission of symptoms and coma. Among the less important symptoms are vomiting, nystagmus, sensory disturbances, variation in temperature, pulse and respiration, abnormal fundi, xantho-chromic fluid and leucocytosis.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
