Chronic pain is a common health problem in clinical practice. Besides the increase in health-care expenditure, it also causes decline in patient's functioning and working capability. In addition, chronic pain and psychiatric symptom comorbidity is very frequent. Recently there are many studies focusing on depression and pain. It might be just a symptom of depression, or might affect psychological status as a consequence of physical disorder. As a result, multidisciplinary approach is necessary for a successful treatment.In this review generally chronic pain, psychological factors and especially depressive disorders are summarized; and the multidisciplinary approaches to the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of the patient with chronic pain are overviewed.
