Background: The National Agency of Drug and Food Control of Republic Indonesia (BPOM) report in 2016 showed that 43 cosmetics contains hazardous ingredients such as synthetic red dye K3 and K10. The use of synthetic dyes can cause poisoning, cancer and accelerate aging. Some plants that contain natural dyes are red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus)and beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.). Red dragon fruit contains betalain color pigment which can be used as natural coloring agent and has antioxidant activity. The red-purple pigment in beetroot is a derivative of betacyanin and betanin which has antioxidant activity. Methods: This study used red dragon fruit and beetroot which was formulated into lipstick formula and determine the antioxidant activity with DPPH method using spectrophotometer UV-Vis. Results: The organoleptic test of lipstick formula 1-5 showed maroon to pink color and control formula was white. The lipstick smells like chocolate. The homogenity test showed that all of the formula was homogeneous. The smear test showed that formula 1-5 was transparent maroon to pink and control formula was colorless. The pH value of all formula was 5. The melting point was F1 (63,7°C), F2 (64,3°C), F3 (64,2°C), F4 (64,5°C) and control (64°C). The breaking point of all formula was F1 (166,7 gram), F2 (170 gram), F3 (163,3 gram), F4 (166,7 gram), F5 (170 gram) and K (170 gram). The result of antioxidant activity test showed that IC50 of all formula was F1 (12,6 ppm), F2 (13,99 ppm), F3 (13,29 ppm), F4 (13,33 ppm) dan F5 (14,17 ppm). This means that the lipsticks has a very strong antioxidant activity. The SPPS test showed there are no different between all the formula with significant value 0,07-0,9>0,05. Conclusion: The lipstick that was made fulfilled the physical test requirements and has a very strong antioxidant activity with IC50 levels > 50 ppm.
Apple is a plant that has the potential of antioxidant activity. Apples contain antioxidants which are good for skin health. Green apples contain lots of vitamins, such as vitamins A, B, C, minerals, and fiber. Green apple containing phytochemical compounds in the form of catechins, epichatechins, ploridzin, quercetin, ellergic acid, and colorogenic acid. Peel-off gel mask is a skin care cosmetic preparation in gel form and after being applied to the skin for a certain time until it dries, this preparation will form a transparent, elastic film layer, so that it can be peeled off. Pharmaceutical preparations in gel form are widely used in cosmetic preparations. Gel is preferred because the water content is large enough, so it feels cold on the skin, easy to apply, not greasy, easy to wash, elastic, and has good drug release. The peel off mask product from green apple extract is expected to be useful in preventing aging because it can function as an antioxidant. This study used an experimental method from gel mask formulation with juice and ultrasonic extraction of green apple fruit. Each peel-off gel base mask is added with 2 g of green apple juice extract and 2 g of green apple maceration extract. Then stir until homogeneous. The peel off mask was tested for antioxidant activity by Uv-Vis Spectrophotometry with the DPPH method. The antioxidant activity of the peel off mask from green apple ultrasonic extract obtained IC50 value was 30,544 ppm and the peel off mask from green apple juice extract obtained IC50 was 9,771 ppm where IC50 value of quercetin was 6,989 ppm. According to the parameter IC50 value, it indicates that the peel off mask formula has a very strong antioxidant (IC50 value < 50).
Peel-Off face mask is one of the cosmetics that is used to treat skin from free radicals. Coffee (Coffea arabica) contains chlorogenic, ferulic, caffeic, and n-coumaric acids which can be useful as antioxidants. Turmeric (Curcuma longa) contains curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the quality parameters and analyzed the antioxidant activity of peel-off masks containing coffee (Coffea arabica) and turmeric (Curcuma longa). This research has made 3 mask formulas, each of which contains coffee and turmeric. The formula made was a combination of coffee and turmeric with a ratio of each formula F1 (10:0), F2 (5:,5) and F3 (0:10). The result of organoleptic parameters for F1 was dark brown with coffee aroma and consistency like gel, F2 wasyellowish-brownn with spiced coffee aroma and consistency like gel and F3 was yellow with turmeric aroma and consistency like gel. The result of the homogeneity test of all formulasmula was homogeny. The result of the pH value of all formulasmula was 5. The resulspreadabilityd ability of F1, F2 and F3 were 26.877 cm2; 26.278 cm2; 26.875 cm2. The drying time of each formula was F1 27.36 min; F2 28.38 min; F3 28.54 min. The antioxidant activity is shown the by IC50 value. The value of IC50 for each formula F1 (37.277 ppm), F2 (34.757 ppm), and F3 (37.399 ppm). The test results showed that all formulas met the quality test requirements and had very strong antioxidant activity.
