The boundary element method is applied to study the free surface of unconfined water flow in earth dams. The soils are modeled as the porous media and the pore fluid flow obeys Darcy's law. A general multi-region boundary element method is developed to investigate the inhomogeneous dams. The free surface is analyzed directly by the trial and error method. Both homegeneous and inhomogeneous dams are fully studied, and the numerical results show satisfactory agreement with previous researches. The proposed numerical method possesses essentially the same assembly procedures as the finite element method, but with much less computer memory storage. 95
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
