Abstract. Teluk Jor has alluvium surface sediment that came from volcanic materials. Sea wave that relatively calm and the closed beach shape support the existence of mangrove forest at Teluk Jor. Sentinel-2A imagery has a good spatial and spectral resolution for mangrove density study. The regression between samples and the NDVI values of Sentinel-2A used to analyze the mangrove canopy density. Mangrove canopy density was identified using field survey with transect method. The regression analysis shows field data and NDVI value has correlation R=0.7739 and coefficient of determination R2=0.5989. The result of the analysis shows area of low density 397,900 m2, moderate density 336,200 m2, the high density has 110,300 m2 and very high density has 500 m2. This research also found that mangrove genus in Teluk Jor consists of Rhizopora, Ceriops, Aegiceras and Sonneratia.
Rip current is being the major cause of the deadly accidents in Parangtritis Beach. This occasion can be prevented by mapping and monitoring the spatial pattern of rip currents at the location which rip currents are located. Rip current location can be identified by remote sensing data or aerial observations, such as Kite Aerial Photography (KAP). This platform is low cost and can be performed in coastal area due to the massive winds there. KAP has been widely used as the platform for mapping, and some of them are implemented in coastal area. This study aims to find out the ability of Kite aerial photography to identify the rip current location in Parangtritis Beach. From several flight tests, the photo mosaic of Parangtritis Beach has been generated after the KAP has flown at the minimum 3 m/s of the wind speed. KAP can be the great potentials in coastal monitoring, especially for rip current monitoring because it is low-cost, low-energy and provides actual information.
The dynamic behavior of a complex system of an undergraduate program in a university is examined. Specifically, by means of System Dynamics Simulation, a model to represent the interrelated variables of the system is developed. The model has passed three different model tests to assess its expediency to reflect the actual system. The simulation result indicates that a growth-and-decline pattern is identifiable. The result suggests that the 'limits to growth' archetype occurs within the system. Six scenarios of system improvement are proposed. Basically, the improvement scenarios attempt to reduce or eliminate the effects of limiting variables in the system. Scenarios #5 which combines improved new lecturers' recruitment procedure, improved plan for infrastructure investment, and a better budget allocation provides the best result.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
