This study aims to describe the effect of Mind Mapping Learning Model on students' ability in writing in Public Speaking courses. The subjects of the study were all three semester students of English education which amounted to four classes of 60 students. This research uses questionnaires data which is distributed to 60 English Semester Three Students at UMSU. The data analysis used is descriptive analysis which include mean, median, standard error and standard deviation, and t test to know the influence of Mind Mapping Learning Model to students ability in writing in Public Speaking course.
The aims of this study are to describe : 1) the types of translation procedures used in the translated text done by the students, 2 ) the types of cohesion shifts used in the translated text done by the students, 2) the types of coherence shifts used in the translated text done by the students. The data were taken from the translated text of students of English faculty at Alwasliyah University of North Sumatra. They were analyzed by using some steps. First, the researcher selected translated text which contain cohesion and coherence shifts. Second, the translated text were classified based on Blum – Kulka’s theory. Having analyzed the data from translated text of students which consists of six paragraphs, the findings are presented as follows : 1). There are five translation procedures which are applied by the students in translating text. They are modulation (29), reduction (8), deletion (2), naturalization (5) and reduction+modulation (2), 2). There are 39 cohesion shifts which are used by the students namely 37 cohesion shifts in text meaning and 2 cohesion shifts in level of explicitness, 3). there are 38 coherence shifts which were used by the students namely 32 reader-focused shifts of coherence and 6 text-focused shifts of coherence. This study aimed to find out students' perceptions of synchronous and asynchronous learning modes. This research was conducted at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatra Utara. This study used a qualitative descriptive method and used random sampling. The subjects of this study were 50 students filling out the questionnaire and 8 students being interviewed. From the results of the study, it can be seen that as many as 72% of students are satisfied with the synchronous learning mode, and as many as 66% of students are satisfied with the asynchronous learning mode. It can be seen that more students like synchronous learning mode than asynchronous learning mode by online learning using whatssapp, google classroom, and zoom application.
This study entitled “Analysis the Effect of Polysemy on the Speech Learning from Covid-19 by Nadiem Makarim to Elementary School Student”. The objectives of this study were (1) to identify the types of polysemy, (2) to investigate polysemy elements used in the speech, and (3) to identify the effect of polysemy were used on the speech to elementary students. The descriptive qualitative is applied in this study. The data were obtained from the speech by Nadiem makarim using documentation method. Afterward, analysis of this study use data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing and verification. The findings of the research show that there are 65 data of polysemy’s words which find in Learning from Covid-19 speech. Based on the types of polysemy, most of Irregular Polysemy were 38 words (58.5%) and followed by Regular Polysemy with 27 words (41.5%). The effect of polysemy on the speech to the elementary student has not been widely applied to elementary school students. Inasmuch as, the student has limited complex reasoning to a word that has another meaning and is critical. In a sentence, polysemy plays an important role and has the function to distinguish the meaning of a word meaning.
This community service aims to enhance teaching abilities by using mobile learning-based comic page maker applications as creative learning media. The execution of this service required planning, implementation, and assessment phases of training. Fourteen instructors from Madrasah Tsanawiyah in Medan participated in this service activity. The evaluation instrument used survey percentages and was analyzed descriptively. This service showed that 71% of teachers understood and could use the mobile learning-based comic page creator application in class. In addition, teachers were enthusiastic about exploring innovative skills and became creative using mobile/mobile applications. By mastering this application, the teacher can convey teaching material more concisely through pictures and text so that learning objectives are conveyed properly to students.
