Practical activities are carried out to prove a concept being studied. Practical activities following 21st-century learning are a form of learning change, initially centered on educators to become student-centered. Learning tools that are designed and planned according to students' needs certainly create interest so that they can build a productive learning environment. This study aimed to see the student's needs for developing learning tools based on interviews and questionnaires distributed to students who took Praktik Jurnalistik media Televisi course. This type of research was Research and Development (R&D). This research was the initial stage of developing learning tools in Praktik Jurnalistik media Televisi course. The needs analysis results obtained data of 46% stating that learning Praktik Jurnalistik media Televisi can improve speaking skills. 39% of students stated that the journalistic practice module requires development; consequently, the journalistic activities' steps and work processes were structured. 37% of students read and used the module as a guide in journalism practice lectures. Furthermore, 42% of students stated the suitability of the activities of 16 meetings with the learning tools and course syllabus.
This study aims to explain the following. First, the relationship of reading interest, news writing skill of grade VIII students SMP Negeri 24 Padang. Secondly, the relationship between learning motivation with news writing skills of grade VIII students. Third, the relationship between reading interest and learning motivation with news writing skills of grade VIII students. The population was grade VIII students. Samples are 40 students grade VIII students SMP Negeri 24 Padang performed using proportional random sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and performance tests. Questionnaire was used to see interest in reading and students' motivation, while performance tests conducted to determine the outcome of news riting skills of students. Analysis and discussion of the data is done in accordance with the concept of descriptive correlational study. Based on the research conducted can be summarized as the follows. First, there is a significant correlation between reading interest, the news writing skills of grade VIII students SMP Negeri 24 Padang. Secondly, there is a significant relationship between learning motivation and news writing skill of grade VIII students. Third, there is a significant relationship between interest in reading and learning motivation together with news writing skills students.
This study aims to describe the relationship of reading interest with news writing skills of class VIII SMP 24 Padang. The population in this study were class VIII students of SMP 24 Padang as many as 252 students. The sample in this study amounted to 40 students whose sampling was done by proportional random sampling. Data collection is done through questionnaires and performance tests. Questionnaire is used to determine the level of mastery of students' reading interest, performance tests are conducted to find out the results of news writing skills. Data analysis and discussion were carried out descriptively correlational. Based on the results of data analysis obtained the following research findings. First, the level of mastery of reading interest in class VIII students of SMP Negeri 24 Padang is quite adequate, which is equal to 67.85. Second, the level of mastery of news writing skills of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 24 Padang is quite sufficient, which is 73.5. Third, the correlation coefficient of reading interest with news writing skills is quite sufficient at 0.448.
