The World Wide Web has added an abundance of data and information to the complexity of information for disseminators and users alike. With this complexity has come the problem of finding useful and relevant information. There is a need for improved and intelligent search and retrieval engines. Current search engines are primarily passive tools. To improve the results returned by searches, intelligent agents and other technology have the potential, when used with existing search and retrieval engines, to provide a more comprehensive search with an improved performance. This research provides the building blocks for integrating intelligent agents with current search engines. It shows how an intelligent system can be constructed to assist in better information filtering, gathering and retrieval. The research is unique in the way the intelligent agents are directed and in how computational intelligence techniques (such as evolutionary computing and fuzzy logic) and intelligent agents are combined to improve information filtering and retrieval. Fuzzy logic is used to access the performance of the system and provide evolutionary computing with the necessary information to carry out its search.
Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a promising technology for improving services and reduction of cost in health care. Accurate almost real time data acquisition and analysis of patient data and the ability to update such a data is a way to improve patient’s care and reduce cost in health care systems. This article employs wireless radio frequency identification technology to acquire patient data and integrates wireless technology for fast data acquisition and transmission, while maintaining the security and privacy issues. An intelligent agent framework is proposed to assist in managing patients’ health care data in a hospital environment. A data classification method based on fuzzy logic is proposed and developed to improve the data security and privacy of data collected and propagated.
When dealing with human lives, the need to utilize and apply the latest technology to help in saving and maintaining patients’ lives is quite important and requires accurate, near-real-time data acquisition and evaluation. At the same time, the delivery of a patient’s medical data needs to be as fast and as secure as possible. One possible way to achieve this is to use a wireless framework based on radio-frequency identification (RFID). This framework can integrate wireless networks for fast data acquisition and transmission while maintaining the privacy issue. This chapter discusses the development of an agent framework in which RFID can be used for patient data collection. The chapter presents a framework for the knowledge acquisition of patient and doctor profiling in a hospital. The acquisition of profile data is assisted by a profiling agent that is responsible for processing the raw data obtained through RFID and a database of doctors and patients.
