This paper reports the theory, process, results, and consequences of diagnosing the race relations among managers of a large industrial corporation. A four person diagnostic team consisting of a black female, black male, white female, and white male, aided by a 12-person advisory committee of similar race/sex composition, developed an organic questionnaire and administered it to more than 600 managers. Data were collected and analyzed on general race relations, management groups, hiring, advancement, firing, actions for change, and reactions to the study. Analysis showed that the state of race relations in the company was related to a variety of systemic conditions including the ideas and feelings of individuals, the perceptions and actions of key groups, and the structure of the whole organization. As a result of the diagnosis, management committed itself to an action plan that addressed all the problematic issues uncovered by the diagnosis.
Microfabricated interdigitated electrode arrayswere constructed and evaluated for use as miniature conductivity cells. The arrays were 2X3 mm in size and had digits ranging in size from 10 to 80 pm. The complex electrical impedance of the devices was measured at frequencies spanning from 100 to 100 kHz in solutions with resistivities ranging from 10 to 67 000 Q/cm. An electromagnetic field model of the interdigitated electrode geometry was used to calculate cell constants. The resulting values ranged from 0.07 to 0.55 cm1, and they agreed well with the experimental data. The frequency dependence of the complex electrical impedance could be represented by an equivalent circuit incorporating an interfacial impedance consisting of a double-layer capacitance in series with a Warburg-type diffusion impedance.
A new series of aluminum alkoxide molecules of formula [Al{(µ-OEt) 2 AlR 2 } 3 ], where R ) Me (1), Et (2), i Bu (3), and [Al{(µ-OEt) 2 GaR 2 } 3 ], where R ) Me (4) and Et (5), have been synthesized and fully characterized. In pure form 1, 2, and 4 are crystalline solids. However, in the presence of a small amount of solvent or impurity all of the compounds exist as oils. They were characterized by 1 H NMR, IR, elemental analysis, mp, and single-crystal X-ray diffractometry for compounds 1, 2, and 4.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
