Despite the increasing availability of online counseling services, many questions remain unanswered. This study compared the effectiveness of a specific employment counseling activity, vocational interest inventory interpretation, across 3 delivery modalities: (a) online text chat; (b) online text chat with video cues; and (c) traditional, face-to-face interpretation. The difference in ratings of session value between text chat with video and face-to-face modalities was not significant; both were rated significantly higher than text chat alone. The results provide tentative support for online delivery of vocational test interpretation if video cues are available but suggest caution with use of text chat alone.e e e eThe Internet and its rapid growth ushered in a new era for the helping professions.

This study investigates the extent to which adolescents identified as at-risk for substance abuse express different beliefs about the importance of family, religiosity, education, and work in comparison to their own parents and to adolescents and parents in control group. It was hypothesized that the success of parents in communicating such values to their children could be a significant variable in risk of substance abuse. We found that parents of at-risk adolescents did not hold significantly different beliefs than parents in the control group. Beliefs of the at-risk adolescents were significantly different from other adolescents and both parent groups. We also found that the absolute difference in age between parent and adolescent significantly smaller in the at-risk group as compared to the control group.

Data from this study identified a significant discrepancy between preservice counselors' perceptions of their career opportunities and actual placement data.

Workers' compensation is specialized insurance purchased by employers to provide services to injured workers or workers who acquire an occupational disease. Benefits to workers include medical care, disability compensation, and rehabilitation services. Across the nation compensation systems are experiencing tremendous difficulties, and the last few years have seen losses persistently run ahead of combined income received from premiums and investments. This article reports on a rehabilitation services delivery model developed and used by a private rehabilitation firm located in Las Vegas, Nevada.
