To the Editor: As premedical students consider pursuing training in dual MD-PhD programs, they are often warned of the difficulty transitioning from graduate school to medical school after completing the PhD phase of their training. However, early-phase MD-PhD students are often unaware of the challenging transition many face earlier in their education-from ending the medical school curriculum to beginning the graduate school experience. As their initial medical school classmates embark on the clerkship phase, many early-stage PhD students can struggle with imposter syndrome and culture shock. These transition points are often challenging to navigate, necessitating close monitoring of student mental health and well-being.
