Free Radical Chemistry. Part 10. Addition of Acyclic and Cyclic Alkanes to Hexafluoropropene.-The γ-ray or peroxide initiated reaction of acyclic and cyclic alkanes with hexafluoropropene is described and a number of polyfluoro-n-propyl derivatives are synthesized. For further functionalization of these systems, the elimination of hydrogen fluoride is investigated. With unusual kinetic control of product formation, fluorinated Z-isomer alkenes are formed preferentially. Furthermore, cobalt trifluorination yields a range of new perfluorocarbons like (XVIII). -(CHAMBERS, RICHARD D.; FUSS, ROBERT W.; SPINK, ROBERT C.
