Gold alloy and Teflon matrices showed the highest retention values without retention loss after 3 years of simulated function. Titanium and O-ring matrices presented a continuous loss of retention with the highest wear on the ball attachments when combined with the titanium matrix.
Objectives Patients undergoing hemimandibulectomy suffer from mandibular deviation. The purpose of this article is to describe a new therapeutic possibility for the prosthetic management of these patients using only one device both for physiotherapy and eating. Methods A 56-year-old man's pre-existing mandibular removable partial prosthesis was modified to use as a partial prosthesis as a device to correct mandibular deviation. In fact, two precision attachments patrix were inserted into buccal surface of partial prosthesis base and corresponding matrix were inserted into a transparent acrylic resin guide-flange. Results In this way the patient can use only one prosthesis both for physiotherapy and eating simply inserting and removing the guide flange. The transparent resin employ is important for the day by day use. Conclusion This technique permits to use only one device both for mechanical correction of mandibular deviation and masticatory function while literature shows that two different devices are usually used in patients with mandibular deviation to satisfy both these functions.
This study has the aim of evaluating whether a very simplified, fixed prosthesis and correction (single crown or small bridge) can be the cause of psychological problems in some patients. The tests utilised are, STAI-Y (STAI-S for state anxiety, STAI-T for trait anxiety), BDI for depression, SP-it for stress events, SDS for somatoform disorders, The tests were given to patients at the first examination (t(0)) and at the check-up (t(1)) 1 month after the definitive prosthesis was cemented. The results have shown that somatic preoccupations, in some cases, increased from t(0) to t(1). It is then right that we ask ourselves the following: if the prosthesis were to be very complicated (implants, dentures), what would happen to the patient from a psychological standpoint?
Le impronte nel paziente totalmente edentulo is an important new contribution to the literature in existence, since it addresses in an exhaustive manner a fundamental aspect: the impressions necessary for the functioning of a non-anchored prosthesis (in the presence of mobile crests, in rebasing or the adaptation of the prosthetic bases etc.). Finally, the topic of edentulism, beyond the conventional total prosthesis, is integrated by addressing ultra-specialist aspects such as the complete agenesia of the deciduous and permanent set of teeth (children born without teeth) or patients operated for head-neck oncological pathologies.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
