An experimental neurohistological study has been made of the intrinsic connections of the cortex of area 17 of the monkey, of the commissural connections of the visual cortex of the cat and monkey and of the association fibres passing into area 17 of the cat. In light microscopic studies the axonal degeneration method of Nauta has been used, and the site and mode of termination of the degenerating fibres has also been determined with the electron microscope...
Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic which initially was isolated from culture filtrates of the fungus Streptomyces venezuelae (1-3) by Bartz (4) and subsequently was synthesized chemically (5-7).Chloramphenicol ( Material for this study consisted of crystalline chloramphenicol obtained from culture filtrates, and the synthetic product.Chloramphenicol was administered intravenously in aqueous propylene glycol or acetamide solutions to small animals at a rate of 0.1 cc. per ten seconds; dogs received 1.0 to 3.0 cc./min. Acute toxicity results are based on a seven-to 14-day observation period and chronic tolerance studies were carried out for two to four weeks in small animals and for periods of three and five weeks and over four months in dogs. The Dragstedt et al. (8) method served to interpolate results.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
