The kinetics and mechanism of titanium corrosion by Krytox MLO-71-6 are reported. The rate of corrosion is found to be dependent on the presence of molecular oxygen in the environment. For titanium corrosion to occur, the lubricant chains must first break down into smaller reactive molecules. This degradation process is accelerated by TiF3 corrosion products on the metal surface, thus giving rise to a chain mechanism. The corrosion is not promoted by intense CW laser illumination at λ = 514nm.
A Michelson interferometer with step-and-integrate mirror motion is described for use in Fourier transform photoacoustic spectrometry (FTPAS) at visible wavelengths. An overview of mechanical and software construction is supplied and the advantages of FTPAS are illustrated with a spectrum of powdered erbium oxide at visible wavelengths. The relative merits of step-and-integrate and rapid scan mirror motion for FTPAS are considered.
Visible-light Fourier-transform photoacoustic spectroscopy (FTPAS) of Nd : glass is reported. The combined throughput and multiplex advantages of the interferometer significantly reduce the data collection time and/or improve the signal-to-noise ratio.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
