A structural and aerodynamic design of a joined-wing configuration is presented here. The configuration fulfills a proposed long-endurance surveillance mission and incorporates a load-bearing antenna structure embedded in the wing skin. PanAir and NASTRAN analysis is managed through Adaptive Modeling Language software. A baseline configuration is trimmed for critical flight conditions and then structurally optimized for the trimmed flight loads. Non-linear structural optimization verifies the ability of the aft-wing to undergo large deformations.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
