Background: Birth order, defined as an individual’s rank by age among siblings. Most of the fascination has focused on the possible role of birth order in shaping personality and behavior. Components of family structure during formative years that reflect emotional and psychological status, coping and relating styles of mature individuals. The researcher attempted to determine whether an individual’s place in the family, known as “birth order”, affected that person’s emotional maturity and mental health. Methods: Study conducted on 40 participants of either sex 20 was psychiatrically ill and another 20 normal control. They were held from Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay joint hospital, district Moradabad, U. P, India. GHQ-12 negative participants from the community formed the normal group age ranging between young adulthood (20-30) years. Emotional maturity scale was administered on all the participants included in this study. Demographic data included gender, domicile, religion; education and list of the participant’s siblings i.e. birth order of the participants. Result: Analysis of the data indicated ‘oldest’ born psychiatric patients extremely unstable on the level of emotionality rather than other group. Conclusion: The place of the individual within the family, the first social structure encountered, has been suggested as a contributing factor in shaping human personalities as well as emotional development.
Background: The terms neurotic and psychotic are both used to describe conditions or illnesses that affect mental health. Serious mental illness is associated with increased risk of behavior problems. Therefore, study carried out to investigate the personality traits of psychotics and neurotics. Methods: Study examined personality dimension of 88 subjects select between two age group 20-25 and 40-45 purposively. The study was conducted on 44 indoor psychotics (20 male & 24 female) and 44 outdoor neurotics (18 male & 26 female). Study was conducted in Bareilly mental hospital, Bareilly India. Dimension Personality Inventory (DPI) was administered on all the included subjects. Result: Neurotics are more enthusiastic in comparison to psychotic participants on the dimension of personality inventory. Conclusion: psychotic female found to be more emotionally instable in comparison to neurotic female.
Objectives: Suicide is considered as an essential psychological and social problem, there is a universal attempt to prevent it. The prevalence of contemplating suicide is 16% and suicide attempt is 4.4% during one’s life. Inflexible personality traits play an important role in the development of maladaptive behaviors among patients who attempt suicide. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between personality profiles and suicidal attempt. Materials and Methods: eighty patients taken from Noormanzil Psychiatric Clinic& Hospital, Lucknow, U.P. India. Out of 80, 40 participants attempted suicide and rest of 40 non suicidal groups. Fifty two patients were in door and twenty eight were out door patients taken in this study. Dimension Personality Inventory (DPI) was administered on all the included subjects Results: There was highly significant difference in the mean score (p<0.05) on ‘activity –passivity’, ‘Enthusiastic- non enthusiastic’, ‘assertive- submissive ‘dimension of DPI between suicidal and non suicidal group of psychiatric patients. Conclusion: The findings of our study show that 22.5% of suicide attempters have bipolar mood disorder at least one maladaptive personality traits.
Background: Eyes are the window to the soul, eye is so closely linked neurologically to the brain that you might call it the only part of our brain you can see from the outside. It seems to hold vital clues to our brain function. Therefore the study was conducted to know the association between colour of eye relate with personality and mental health Methods: Study examined personality of 300 subjects selected purposively. The study was conducted on 143 were normal subjects (77male & 66 female) GHQ negative (score less than 3) subjects from the community formed the normal group for the study and 157 indoor & outdoor psychiatric patients (suffering with three type of disorder like schizophrenics, bipolar and conversion) (102 male & 55 female) admitted in Nirwan neuropsychiatric clinic Lucknow & Bareilly mental hospital, Bareilly U.P. India. Age ranging between 20-30, 40-50 & 60 and above served as participants. Sentence completion test (SCT) was administered on all the included subjects. Result: Light brown color of eyes male had high psychiatric morbidity (68.47%) then female. Conclusion: Colour of eye can be indicate the personality trait of human being black colour of eyes indicate negative traits of personality in female.
Background: In order to present a model of normal personality first endeavor is to make the literal meaning of normal. Normal literally means according to the norms. An average is represented by this norm and it is dependent on a certain time and culture according to its definition. Renewed attention has recently been focused on the relationship between normal and abnormal personality functioning and distinctions between adaptive and pathological personality. In this study we have considered “mood disorder, Schizophrenia and conversion disorder as psychopaths.” Therefore the study was conducted to know the difference between personality profile of normal and psychopaths of hill and plains. Methods: Study examined personality traits of 320 participants selected between 20-25 and 40-45 age groups purposively. The study was conducted on 80 normal, 80 bipolar mood disorders 80 schizophrenic and 80 conversion disorder patients. GHQ negative (score less than 3) subjects from the community formed the normal group for the study and psychopaths taken from Susheela Tiwari Forest Medical collage Haldwani, Uttrakhand, India. Bareilly mental hospital, Bareilly, India. Agra mental hospital, Agra, India, Nirwan Neuropsychiatric hospital, Lucknow, Uttarpradesh India. Sentence completion test (SCT) was administered on all the included subjects. Result: Significant difference found of mental conditions among 20-25 and 40-45 year male who belonging from hill area. Conclusion: Psychopathic female belonging from plain areas were very low ‘social’, ‘ambitious’ and ‘confident’ in comparison to Hill’s female.
