Reactions of enaminonitriles with phosgene have been investigated. Enaminonitriles with an a hydrogen or a halogen gave enaminocarboxylic acid chlorides in moderate to good yields together with low yields of isocyanates. Reactions of enaminonitriles with an -cyano or -ethoxycarbonyl group resulted in the quantitative recovery of the starting materials. The acid chlorides obtained were characterized by spectral analyses and by conversion to derivatives such as esters and amides.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
