In patients with rAAA and sAAA that are suitable for stenting, ER has reduced mortality compared with open repair. Assessment for ER does not cause a pre-operative delay, operating time is reduced, blood transfusion requirements are reduced and there is a faster recovery.
Cardiovascular disease, for which there is evidence for the survival benefit of pharmacologic risk reduction, is prevalent in patients with AAA. The data show that current treatment of cardiovascular risk is suboptimal and could be improved, with an expected reduction in cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
This study demonstrates a low mortality and a gradual reduction in vascular morbidity and mortality associated with endovascular repair since it was first introduced.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
