Lifetimes have been measured of the low-and intermediate-spins states in 188 Pt nucleus using the recoil distance Doppler shift technique at IUAC, Delhi. The nuclear states of interest were populated via 174 Yb(18 O,4n) 188 Pt reaction at a beam energy of 79 MeV provided by 15 UD Pelletron accelerator. The extracted B(E2) values show an increase up to 4 + state and then a near constant behavior with spin along yrast band, indicating change of the nuclear shape in 188 Pt at low spins. The average absolute β 2 = 0.20(3) obtained from measured B(E2) values matches well the values predicted by CHFB and IBM calculations for oblate (β 2 ∼ −0.19) and prolate (β 2 ∼ 0.22) shapes.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
