In Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN), QoS are important, especially in Multimedia applications like Skype calls. The Internet is today facing a change of the traffic type dominating the aggregates at network core and edges. Interactive VoIP and videoconferencing are currently having an exponential growth of usage. To dynamically determine the appropriate streaming bit rate and quality, the server needs to closely track the underlying bandwidth conditions. Several such rate control algorithms have been proposed for streaming application. These algorithms are reactive in nature, in that, they monitor the video play out buffers or certain end-to-end network parameters and adapt streaming rate depending on the changes in the observed values. This paper analyzes the performance of Bandwidth Map-TCP Friendly Rate Control (BW-MAP-TFRC) algorithm for improving QoS in streaming applications using different performance indices and then relatively compares the results available from these indices.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
