Experiments were conducted under field and on-farm conditions at different sites in Khartoum State in 2013 and 2014. The main objective was to study the effect of a new bio-activator and organic fertilizer ''Elixir'' on growth and yield of table grapes, alfalfa and musk melon. The results showed that application of Elixir, at the rate of (35 l/ha) split in five weekly doses on heavy clay soils under tropical conditions, significantly improved growth and yield parameters of table grapes Vitis vinifera L. Yield of table grapes increased steadily with increase in number of applications in both sites. High fruit cluster weights of 565.1 and 600.0 g and total yields of 27.7 And 41.3 t/ha, were recorded by variety Cardinal, from sites I and II, respectively. Fruits TSS was not significantly affected by Elixir. Supporting noticeably high yield increases were attained from on-farm trials by Elixir at Dal Agric. project on a new alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) crop by 30.4% and the old crops by 42.0% and 35.1% in Dal and 72.7% and 169.6% in Inmaa project for first and second cuts, respectively. Likewise, application of 35l/ha of Elixir significantly increased muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.), variety Green star, yield to 24.7 t/ha.
SUMMARYSeedling tubers of three true potato seed (TPS) crosses raised in a seedbed soil mixture of clay, sand and dry leaves produced about 3.1 kg of seedling tubers m−2 in the growing season of 1988–89 and between 4.3 and 5.1 kg m−2 in 1989/90. The seedling tubers produced were stored and their use as seed tubers was subsequently compared with the locally popular variety Alpha. The mean tuber yields of the hybrids ranged between 9.4 and 11 t ha−1 in 1990/91 and between 21.9 and 22.9 t ha−1 in 1991/92. Mean tuber yields of cultivar Alpha were 14.3 t ha−1 in 1990/91 and 24.1 t ha−1 in 1991/92, showing that tuber yields comparable to those of imported seed tubers could be obtained from seedling tubers of TPS origin.
Abstract. Four experiments were conducted in Khartoum State in 2013 and 2014. The main objectives were to study the effect of a new bio-activator and organic fertilizer ''Elixir'' on growth and yield of cucumber, tomatoes, and Abu Sabien as well as testing the soil conditioning ability of the product. The two sites of cucumber and their combined results showed that application of Elixir (1.0 l/tunnel/week) in combination with NPK (1.0 kg 10:50:10 and 1.0 kg 10:10:35/tunnel/week), up to end of the crop, gave significantly high number of fruits/m 2 (123) and yield (10.53 kg/m 2 ) under cooled plastic house conditions compared to foliar fertilizer combined with NPK (high P and high K), Elixir alone and the control NPK (20:20:20) alone, all at the same rate. Results of Elixir applied as a soil conditioner at the rate of one liter per standard plastic house per week, up to end of the crop, on growth, productivity and quality of tomato, Lycopersicon esculentum Mill., fruits under cooled plastic houses was remarkably better compared to other soil conditioners, Humic acid, EM and Clean salt. Elixir application resulted in significantly high yields (145.5 t/ha) by tomato variety Newten. Significant reductions in the soil electrical conductivity (Ece.) were recorded by different application rates of Elixir: 5 ml, 10 ml, 15 ml, 20 ml and 25 ml, (2.7 to 2.9 dSm ).
