ChemInform Abstract Photolysis of seven-and eight-membered cyclic esters such as (III) leads to the products (I) or (IV) arising from solvolysis or decarboxylation ascribable to α-or β-scission, respectively. Larger rings do not undergo these photoreactions.

In connection with a study of the photochemical behavior of multi‐membered heterocycles, a series of seven‐, fourteen‐ and twenty‐membered ring systems such as (II), (III), (V), (VI) and (IX) are prepared.
