Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common pediatric infectious disease caused by Enterovirus A species (EV-A) within the family of Picornaviridae. Enteroviruses are nonenveloped and positive-sense single-stranded RNA viruses (Linden et al., 2015). Enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) and coxsackievirus A16 (CV-A16) are the most prevalent etiological pathogens for HFMD (Klein & Chong, 2015).
