Islam is a religion that guides people in every aspect of life. This involves guiding Muslims to do business in a manner that is blessed (barakah). Thereafter, Muslim entrepreneurs would be able to become a role model to the non-Muslims not only on the aspects of business dealing, but also principles that lead to business success. However, despite guiding Muslims on how to operate business the Islamic way, not many Muslims turned out to be successful as they should be. Were they not practicing enough Islam that resulted in poor business performance? For the purpose of analysis, 110 data were obtained from an entrepreneurship program held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia The aim was to investigate the impact of religiousness and personal values on business performance. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to fulfill the objectives of the study. The analysis generated an unexpected outcome. Religiousness was inversely related to business performance. Intrinsic and extrinsic values were not significantly related to business performance; hence did not support the findings of previous studies. Justification for the unexpected results and recommendation for future research were also discussed in the paper.
Organizations could suffer losses due to the ineffectiveness of the expatriates to comprehend their host culture. Previous studies suggest that the important measures to identify expatriate effectiveness primarily focus on the individual-level factors which are personality traits, gender, and prior international experience. Therefore, this study aims to investigate whether the Big Five personality model namely openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism have any influence on cultural intelligence. Using purposive sampling method, a total of 320 questionnaires were distributed via email to Malaysian expatriates in Hague, Netherlands. Results from multiple regression analysis indicate that personality traits of agreeableness, openness and extraversion are significant to Malaysian expatriate's cultural intelligence.
P-glycoprotein (P-gp) over expression is often linked to the multidrug resistance (MDR) in mammalian cell lines and human cancers. Quassinoid is a type of compound extracted from Eurycoma longifolia Jack (Tongkat Ali) that have been shown to display anti-cancer, anti-malarial and anti-viral effects on various cell types. In this study, molecular docking method was used to explore potential binding interactions between a quassinoid and the human P-gp. SITEHOUND-webserver was used to predict the potential binding pockets of P-gp. Two programs, Docking@UTMB web server and AutoDock Vina software were utilized to dock the quassinoid to P-gp. Both programs showed that quassinoid forms hydrogen bonds with GLN 946 and TYR 953 residues. In fact, these residues were shown to interact with known drug compounds.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
