AbstracL Spectral data on fwo emission from a long-scale-length carbon plasma produced by 1.064 w n laser light are presented at an average laser intensity of 3.0 x lOI3 W cm-l. Both wings of the specmm in the backscattering direction, which were observed in the laser-plasma experimentmeported earlier only at laser intensities greater than 2 x loi4 W c d , have been observed in the present experiment. The possible mechanisms producing the backscattered ; m blue photons have been analysed. It is concluded that the specular reflection of the amplified blue plasmons excited by the convecting two-plasmon decay instability is densityscale-length dependent and is the effective mechanism for the observation of the blue wing in the specmm.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
